Dr. Ramzi Khouri, member of the PLO Executive Committee and head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, took part in the Easter midnight mass at the Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration in Ramallah. Also, in attendance was Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, member of the committee and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The service was led by Archimandrite Elias Awad and attended by a large congregation from the Orthodox community. The solemn yet celebratory liturgy reflected a deep faith in the resurrection of truth and justice, even as Palestinians continue to endure hardship, particularly in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In remarks following the mass, Khouri expressed hope for a better future: “We hope that by next year, the aspirations of our people for freedom and independence will be realized, and that the Palestinian people will be able to celebrate all their national and religious holidays in our eternal capital, Jerusalem.”
