Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Dr. Ramzi Khouri, met with the Greek Consul General in Jerusalem, Mr Dimitrios Angelopoulos. The meeting was also attended by committee member and representative to Europe, Ms. Amira Hanania, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen international coordination to safeguard religious sites and support the Christian presence in the Holy Land.
Dr. Khouri briefed the Greek Consul General on recent political developments, with a particular focus on the continued crimes committed by Israeli occupation forces in Gaza, including the recent bombing of the Al-Ahli Arab (Baptist) Hospital. He also highlighted the systematic violations against Muslim and Christian holy sites, and the growing restrictions imposed on churches and religious institutions, especially in Jerusalem, as Palestinians prepare to observe Holy Saturday and Easter, two occasions of deep spiritual and national significance.
He also emphasized the Committee’s efforts to support Christian institutions and reinforce their resilience, noting that preserving Jerusalem’s religious and cultural identity is both a national and international responsibility. He called on the global community to uphold international law and agreements that guarantee freedom of worship and the protection of holy sites.
Both sides agreed to continue their coordination and deepen collaboration with international partners to defend holy places and support the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, especially their right to freedom, dignity, and worship in their capital, Jerusalem.
