Meeting held with Rev. Munther Isaac of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
Dr. Ramzi Khouri, member of the PLO Executive Committee and head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, met with Reverend Munther Isaac, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bethlehem. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Amira Hanania, a committee member and its representative in Europe.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between church institutions and national bodies, and reinforcing the vital role of the Church in serving the Palestinian people and defending their rights amid increasingly challenging times.
Dr. Khouri underscored the importance of strategic partnership with churches, praising the leadership of Christian clergy in defending Palestinian rights and exposing the Israeli occupation’s ongoing violations. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Palestinian leadership—led by President Mahmoud Abbas—to supporting the indigenous Christian presence in Palestine and bolstering its resilience against all forms of marginalization and displacement.
During the meeting, Dr. Khouri congratulated Rev. Isaac on the release of his latest book, “Christ in the Rubble”, which confronts the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and calls on churches worldwide to adopt a moral and humanitarian stance in the face of such atrocities. Khouri praised the book for amplifying the voices of Palestinian victims and presenting a powerful theological narrative that condemns injustice and calls for global solidarity and accountability. He reaffirmed that This kind of work plays a critical role in connecting the global Church with the Palestinian cause, and helps carry the truth of our people to international platforms that too often remain silent.
