President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed today Rev. Dr. Mae Cannon, Executive Director of Churches for Middle East Peace, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah. Dr. Cannon was accompanied by a delegation, and the meeting was attended by Dr. Ramzi Khouri, member of the PLO Executive Committee and head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, along with committee members Mr. Mousa Hadid and Ms. Amira Hanania.
President Abbas expressed his appreciation for the CMEP’s steadfast support for justice and peace, and its unwavering advocacy for the rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause—particularly in supporting the resilience of the Christian presence in the Holy Land.
He briefed the delegation on the latest political developments and the ongoing violations against Muslim and Christian holy sites, as well as the continued Israeli genocide in Gaza Strip, marked by grave atrocities against civilians.
Rev. Dr. Cannon reaffirmed CMEP’s commitment to pursuing peace and justice in the Middle East and to alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people. She highlighted the recent escalation, including the bombing of the Arab Ahli (Baptist) Hospital in Gaza, which had sheltered hundreds of displaced people, patients, and the wounded. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening efforts to support and preserve the Christian Palestinian presence in the Holy Land.
The visit is part of the CMEP’s broader mission to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and advocate for their legitimate and just rights.
